Pakistan says it’s hopeful that Iran will take steps to ease tensions, as efforts continue to prevent further conflict in the region. Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi shared this message after meeting with US diplomat Natalie Baker in Islamabad.

Naqvi welcomed the decision by Donald Trump to extend the ceasefire with Iran, calling it a positive step that gives diplomacy more time to work. Pakistan is actively trying to mediate between the sides, with leaders like Shehbaz Sharif and Asim Munir pushing for a long-term peaceful solution.

The conflict itself began after a joint military strike by the US and Israel on Iran earlier this year, which led to retaliation from Tehran. This escalation affected key global routes like the Strait of Hormuz, increasing concerns about energy supplies worldwide.

Pakistan successfully helped broker a temporary truce earlier in April, and although the first round of talks didn’t lead to an agreement, another round is expected soon in Islamabad. There is cautious optimism that progress could happen within days if all sides stay committed.

In simple terms, Pakistan is trying to act as a peacemaker, encouraging everyone to stay at the table and avoid further conflict.
