Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has congratulated the Türkiye women’s national volleyball team after it defeated Brazil in the 2026 FIVB Volleyball Nations League final to win the title.
“I wholeheartedly congratulate our women’s national volleyball team, which made all of Türkiye proud by achieving a great success, defeating Brazil in the Nations League final and becoming champions,” President Erdogan said in a post on his NSosyal account on Sunday.
Separately, in a phone call, the Turkish leader congratulated everyone who contributed to the national team’s success, particularly the players and coaching staff.
Türkiye’s national women’s volleyball team defeated Brazil 3-1 in the 2026 FIVB Volleyball Nations League final to win the tournament for the second time in its history.
The final was played at the East Asian Games Dome in China’s Macau Special Administrative Region, where Türkiye faced world No. 2 Brazil.
Türkiye beat Brazil by a 3-1 scoreline to claim the title, adding a second Volleyball Nations League championship after their first triumph in 2022.
Türkiye won the Volleyball Nations League title for the second time after reaching the final stage for the eighth consecutive year since the competition began in 2018.
The Sultans of the Net, as they are popularly called, delivered a dominant performance in defeating China in the semifinals to reach the championship match.
The national team won its first title by defeating China in the 2023 final after finishing runner-up to the United States in the 2018 final.
Returning to the final three years later, Türkiye increased its total medal tally in the competition to four, with two gold, one silver and one bronze, making it one of the tournament’s most successful teams.
National team head coach Daniele Santarelli continued his successful spell with Türkiye.
The Italian coach, who took charge in 2023, won his third gold medal with the national team.
After leading Türkiye to the Volleyball Nations League title in 2023, Santarelli guided the team to another title in 2026. He also led the side to the 2023 European Championship title.
Santarelli also won a silver medal with Türkiye at the 2025 FIVB Women’s World Championship, taking his total medal count with the national team to four.
Türkiye avenged their defeat to Brazil in the bronze medal match at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games.
Two years after losing to Brazil in Paris, Türkiye faced the same opponent in another medal match and emerged victorious to claim the Volleyball Nations League title.
Brazil were beaten by the United States in the 2018, 2019 and 2021 finals and by Italy in the 2025 final before losing to Türkiye in the 2026 final.
