A group of United Nations experts has strongly condemned military operations by the United States and Israel against Iran, as well as escalating attacks in Lebanon, calling the actions “flagrant violations of international law.”

In a statement released from London, the experts warned that the conflict could spread across the Middle East and create a precedent of impunity for powerful military nations. They criticized US President Donald Trump’s calls for Iran’s “unconditional surrender” and his remarks on influencing the country’s leadership.

The experts stressed that human rights abuses in Iran do not justify foreign military intervention or interference in a UN member state’s sovereignty, noting that only the Iranian people have the right to determine their political system.

They also called for independent investigations into several reported attacks potentially violating international humanitarian law, including the bombing of a girls’ school in Iran that reportedly killed at least 180 students, strikes on oil refineries causing environmental damage, and attacks on a desalination plant.

Israel’s military escalation in Lebanon was also condemned, with the experts warning that forced evacuations of residents in southern Beirut and southern Lebanon may be illegal.

The current crisis intensified after a joint US–Israeli attack on Iran on February 28, which Iranian authorities say killed over 1,300 people—including Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei—and injured more than 10,000. Iran responded with drone and missile strikes targeting Israel, Jordan, Iraq, and Gulf states hosting US military assets.
