Heavy rains have inundated Syokimau, southeast of Nairobi, leaving roads submerged and transport paralyzed. Residents say the flooding has forced many to remain indoors, unable to reach work or school. “Everybody has not been able to move out of their houses because there’s nowhere to pass,” said Abdulrahim Weku. Taxi drivers reported major losses, with Johnson Kaburi noting he wasted hours in traffic and fuel with little income to show. The floods are part of a wider crisis across Kenya, where recent rains have killed more than 80 people. Experts link the worsening severity of floods and droughts to human‑driven climate change, warning that East Africa faces mounting risks. Locals are urging authorities to act quickly to improve drainage and ease movement in flood‑prone areas.
