mini 9185 nigerian troops kill more than 20 terrorists in country s northeast military says

Soldiers in Nigeria have killed at least 20 terrorists during a clash in Yobe State, the military announced on Thursday.

According to military spokesperson Sani Uba, troops successfully repelled coordinated attacks launched late Monday on a military base in Goniri. The fighting lasted into the early hours of Tuesday.

Among those killed was a senior militant commander identified as Abu Yusu, described by the military as the “Munzir of Dursula.” Some Nigerian soldiers were also injured during the battle, though officials did not provide exact numbers.

The attack came shortly after other violent incidents earlier in the week in Borno State and Yobe, where at least 14 people, including 10 soldiers, were killed.

The region has been plagued for years by terrorism linked mainly to Boko Haram. According to the United Nations, the conflict has killed more than 40,000 people and displaced about two million residents.

Nigeria’s military says it is stepping up counterterrorism operations as it continues efforts to weaken militant groups operating in the northeast.
