Mauritius has strongly condemned the firing of two ballistic missiles at the Diego Garcia military base in the Chagos Archipelago, calling it a grave violation of international law and a threat to peace and stability in the Indian Ocean. The Foreign Ministry urged an immediate cessation of hostilities and reaffirmed that any resolution must align with UN principles of sovereignty and territorial integrity.
UK officials said one missile fell short and another was intercepted, while Iran dismissed the claims as an “Israeli false flag.” The incident drew attention because Diego Garcia lies 4,000 km from Iran—double the range Tehran has previously claimed for its missiles.
Mauritius avoided naming Iran directly, instead commending Gulf Cooperation Council efforts to ease tensions. The island, hosting a joint US-UK military presence since the 1970s, remains a strategic hub for long-range bombers and global energy security.
