The Indian-flagged tanker Jag Prakash oil tanker has departed from the eastern side of the Strait of Hormuz after delays caused by rising tensions in the Gulf regi
The ship is carrying gasoline loaded at Sohar Port in Oman and is expected to deliver the fuel to Tanga Port in Tanzania on March 21.
Shipping routes in the Gulf have been disrupted in recent weeks after Iran targeted the region following military strikes carried out by the United States and Israel.
According to Indian shipping official Rajesh Kumar Sinha, four Indian-flagged vessels had been stuck east of the strait in the Gulf of Oman. The Jag Prakash has now resumed its journey, but three ships remain in the area with 76 Indian sailors on board.
At the same time, 24 Indian-flagged vessels are still stranded west of the strait in the Persian Gulf, carrying a total of 677 Indian sailors.
Tensions remain high after Iran’s leadership warned that the country could keep the Strait of Hormuz closed as leverage in its confrontation with the United States and Israel.
