Abdel Fattah el-Sissi welcomed Alexander Stubb to Cairo for important talks about rising global tensions and shifting international power.
The two leaders discussed major issues affecting both Europe and the Middle East, including the Iran conflict, the Strait of Hormuz, Gaza, and the war in Ukraine. Both sides agreed that problems in their regions are becoming more connected, meaning countries must work together more closely.
Stubb emphasized that many nations want peace and a fair global system based on rules, but are still affected by conflicts caused by others. In simple terms, even countries not directly involved in wars are feeling the consequences.
El-Sissi highlighted Egypt’s strong position on regional issues. He stressed that Sudan must remain united and warned that any attempt to divide it is unacceptable for Egypt’s security. He also welcomed ongoing efforts, especially by Pakistan, to reduce tensions between the US and Iran, calling them a positive step toward calm.
At the same time, Egypt strongly criticized attacks during the conflict, including Iranian strikes on Gulf countries, and urged the world not to ignore the ongoing suffering of Palestinians in Gaza and the West Bank.
Overall, the meeting showed growing concern that global conflicts are increasingly connected—and that cooperation and diplomacy are more important than ever to prevent further instability.
