Heavy rains in Angola’s Benguela and Luanda provinces have killed 29 people, injured 17, and left three missing, according to Civil Protection officials. Benguela was hardest hit, with 23 deaths, most of the injuries, and two of the missing.

The floods affected more than 33,000 people, inundated 6,752 homes, and caused over 200 house collapses in Benguela alone. Damage also extended to boats, vehicles, and vital infrastructure. In Luanda, six people died, and landslides disrupted electricity, telecommunications, health, and education services.

Authorities say they are continuing rescue and relief efforts as communities struggle with widespread destruction.
