Mikel Arteta has agreed a new contract to remain Arsenal manager, extending his tenure at the Premier League champions beyond the end of the current season.
The 44-year-old Spaniard’s existing deal, signed in September 2024, was due to expire next summer. Confirmation of the new agreement is expected during the international break, Sky Sports reports.
Arteta, who joined Arsenal in 2019, is already the longest-serving manager in England’s top four leagues.
There is no confirmation over the length of his new contract but it is set to take him into at least his 10th year at the club following his arrival in December 2019.
The new contract will also include a sharp pay increase from his current salary of £10m per year plus an additional £5m in bonuses.
Speaking about his contract talks, Arteta said last week that fans did not need to “worry” because he wanted to stay.
“I’m extremely happy and I feel very grateful to work with the people I work with,” he said.
Arteta has guided Arsenal to their first Premier League title in 22 years, ending a run of three successive second-place finishes.
He also led Arsenal to their second Champions League final, where they lost to Paris Saint-Germain on penalties.
The former Arsenal midfielder has also won an FA Cup and three Community Shields since taking charge in 2019.
