The Sudanese army has rejected a claim by Ethiopia’s military chief that Khartoum was supporting Ethiopian opposition groups, calling it “baseless.”
In a statement late Sunday, the Sudanese Armed Forces said Sudan remained committed to international law and non-interference in other countries’ affairs but would not allow threats to its sovereignty or national security.
It urged Addis Ababa to address differences through dialogue and official channels in the interest of stability in both countries and the wider region.
Ethiopian National Defence Force Chief of General Staff Field Marshal Birhanu Jula had earlier accused Sudan, Egypt and other actors of supporting groups opposed to the Ethiopian government.
His remarks came amid renewed tensions in northern Ethiopia, where clashes have intensified between federal forces and the Tigray People’s Liberation Front (TPLF) rebels and allied groups.
