Robert Abela has announced that Malta will hold a general election on May 30, aiming to secure a new mandate to lead the country.

Abela said the decision comes at a time of global uncertainty, arguing that Malta needs strong and stable leadership to face upcoming challenges. He plans to ask President Myriam Spiteri Debono to dissolve parliament so the election can go ahead.

In simple terms, the prime minister wants voters to renew their trust in his government so it can continue its work without political distraction. He emphasized that the coming months will be important for the country’s future.

His Labour Party plans to campaign on improving people’s quality of life over the next five years, promising a realistic and carefully planned program rather than making exaggerated promises.

This election will be Malta’s 26th since it gained self-government in 1921, making it another important moment in the country’s democratic process.
