Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan has signaled that the kingdom may resort to military action if Iran’s missile and drone attacks continue. Speaking after a meeting of regional foreign ministers in Riyadh, he accused Iran of trying to pressure its neighbors and warned that “escalation will be met with escalation.”
The comments came after Saudi Arabia reported fresh Iranian strikes, including blasts heard in Riyadh while diplomats were meeting. The defense ministry confirmed intercepting ballistic missiles. Prince Faisal dismissed Iran’s claim that it was targeting US interests, calling it “weak” and stressing that civilian sites across the Gulf were being hit.
A joint statement from the ministers condemned Iran’s “deliberate” targeting of residential areas, oil facilities, desalination plants, airports, and diplomatic missions. They reaffirmed that such attacks cannot be justified under any circumstances and emphasized the right of states to defend themselves under international law. The statement urged Iran to immediately cease its attacks and de-escalate tensions.
