Two young Sudanese women, reported as a 16-year-old and a 20-year-old, suffocated to death aboard a small boat carrying 82 migrants, including pregnant women and children, off Neufchatel-Hardelot. The vessel’s engine failed, leaving passengers trapped in dangerous conditions as the boat drifted before running aground. Seventeen people were rescued at sea, while others suffered chemical burns and injuries. Aid groups condemned the tragedy, blaming restrictive Franco-British border policies for forcing migrants into perilous crossings. Local officials expressed sorrow at seeing young people and mothers with children risking their lives in desperate attempts to flee.
