A US special forces soldier is facing serious charges after allegedly using secret military information to make huge profits from online betting.
According to prosecutors, Gannon Ken Van Dyke used classified details about a covert mission to capture Nicolás Maduro. Because he was directly involved in planning the operation, he had access to sensitive information that the public didn’t know.
Before the raid happened, he reportedly placed around $33,000 in bets on the prediction platform Polymarket, correctly predicting that Maduro would be removed. After the operation succeeded, those bets earned him more than $400,000.
Authorities say this wasn’t luck—it was insider trading using government secrets. He now faces multiple charges, including fraud, theft of confidential information, and illegal financial transactions.
Investigators also claim he tried to hide what he did by moving money through cryptocurrency accounts and deleting his betting profile.
Officials stressed that having access to classified information comes with strict responsibilities. Using it for personal gain is considered a serious crime and a threat to national security.
In simple terms, this case is about someone using secret government knowledge to cheat the system and now facing the legal consequences.
