Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi on Monday called on US President Donald Trump to help end the Middle East war, now entering its second month. Speaking in Cairo alongside Cypriot President Nikos Christodoulides, Sisi said: “I speak to you in the name of humanity and in the name of everyone who loves peace… Please, help us to stop the war.”
Egypt joined other Muslim-majority nations in weekend talks in Pakistan aimed at finding a path to peace. Sisi’s appeal came just hours before Trump threatened to strike Iran’s electricity plants and Kharg Island, its key oil export hub.
The Egyptian leader has previously urged Trump to intervene in regional conflicts, telling him last October that he was “the only one” who could end the war between Israel and Hamas in Gaza.
