Nigeria’s military has killed more than 65 armed bandits in a major security operation in the northwestern Zamfara State, as authorities intensify efforts to curb widespread violence and mass kidnappings.
The operation, described as a “major breakthrough,” involved a coordinated seven-hour ground and air assault in the Tsafe district. It comes amid escalating insecurity in the region, where criminal gangs—locally known as bandits—frequently carry out deadly raids, abductions for ransom, and widespread destruction of property.
Earlier in the week, police confirmed a mass kidnapping in the Bukkuyum area, where heavily armed attackers reportedly stormed several villages. While official figures remain unclear, local residents estimate that around 150 people were abducted and several others killed.
Authorities have launched a manhunt for those responsible, as concerns grow over persistent insecurity across Zamfara and neighboring regions.
The latest developments highlight the ongoing challenge facing Nigeria’s security forces as they attempt to dismantle well-organized criminal networks and restore stability in affected communities.
