The flotilla, known as the Global Sumud Flotilla, was reportedly stopped by Israeli naval forces in international waters. It was carrying aid and activists aiming to challenge the long-standing blockade on Gaza.

Anwar described the action as “violent” and compared it to piracy, saying it goes against basic humanitarian values. He called for the immediate safety and release of those detained, including 10 Malaysian citizens who are said to be currently unreachable.

The Malaysian government says it is working with other countries through diplomatic channels to resolve the situation and secure the activists’ release. Anwar stressed that Malaysia will not remain passive in the face of such actions.

According to reports, around 100 boats and nearly 1,000 activists from different countries were part of the mission. While some vessels were intercepted, others managed to escape toward nearby waters.

The flotilla’s goal was to deliver humanitarian aid and draw attention to the conditions in Gaza, where many people continue to face severe hardship under the blockade imposed since 2007.

The incident adds to already high tensions in the region and raises fresh concerns about maritime law, humanitarian access, and the safety of international activists.
