Madagascar’s President Michael Randrianirina has appointed anti-corruption chief Mamitiana Rajaonarison as the country’s new prime minister, days after dismissing the previous government and dissolving the entire cabinet.

The president, who took power in October, said the appointment reflects his commitment to integrity and institutional reform. Speaking on state television, Randrianirina praised Rajaonarison’s reputation, saying the country needs leaders “who cannot be swayed or bought.”

Authorities have not provided an official explanation for the sudden dismissal of former Prime Minister Herintsalama Rajaonarivelo and other ministers earlier this week.

The move forms part of Randrianirina’s broader political programme known as “Refoundation,” an initiative aimed at strengthening state authority, combating corruption and rebuilding public confidence in government institutions following a political transition.
