Israel has announced support for Donald Trump’s decision to pause military strikes against Iran for two weeks, but only if Iran immediately reopens the Strait of Hormuz and stops attacks on the US, Israel, and nearby countries.

Benjamin Netanyahu’s office said Israel agrees with the temporary pause and also supports US efforts to prevent Iran from posing future nuclear, missile, or security threats.

The ceasefire was reportedly helped by mediation from Shehbaz Sharif, who invited both US and Iranian delegations to talks in Islamabad. While broader conflict zones were initially mentioned in the peace discussions, Israel clarified that Lebanon is not included in this ceasefire.

That means fighting between Israel and Hezbollah is expected to continue. Violence in southern Lebanon has already caused heavy casualties, with nearly 1,500 reported deaths and thousands more injured since March. Hezbollah says its rocket attacks are retaliation for ongoing Israeli strikes and recent regional escalations.

The pause in US-Iran hostilities may reduce immediate tensions, but with Lebanon excluded and violence continuing elsewhere, the region remains far from full peace.
