United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres has appointed Garry Conille, former prime minister of Haiti, as the new UN Resident Coordinator in Kenya. Conille officially took up the post this week, bringing more than 20 years of experience in international development, humanitarian affairs, and public administration.
Conille has a long history within the UN system, having served as UNICEF’s Regional Director for Latin America and the Caribbean, and later as Resident Coordinator in Burundi and Jamaica. In Haiti, he twice held the role of prime minister—first in 2011–2012, and again in 2024 during a transitional period marked by UN‑mandated Kenyan troop deployments to help restore security amid gang violence.
In his new position, Conille will oversee the implementation of the United Nations Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework in Kenya, focusing on economic stability, governance, and humanitarian priorities.
