Emmanuel Macron called on Israel to abandon territorial ambitions and withdraw from Lebanon, stressing that only diplomacy can bring lasting peace.

Speaking alongside Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam at the Elysee Palace, Macron said the current ceasefire is fragile and requires sustained political efforts to hold.

He emphasized that a long-term solution must guarantee both security and Lebanon’s territorial integrity, warning that continued tensions could lead to renewed conflict.

Macron also raised the possibility that the European Union might reconsider its agreement with Israel if current policies continue, though he cautioned against rushing into confrontation while talks are ongoing.

Salam reiterated Lebanon’s demands, including the full withdrawal of Israeli forces, the return of detainees, and the safe return of displaced people. He also highlighted urgent humanitarian needs, saying the country requires significant financial support in the coming months.

Macron added that internal stability in Lebanon is also key, noting that groups like Hezbollah should be addressed domestically.

France pledged continued support for Lebanon’s recovery and reconstruction, while also backing diplomatic efforts to prevent further escalation in the region.
