At least four people have been killed and several others injured after a building collapsed during a demolition operation in Nairobi, Kenya.
The incident occurred in the Shauri Moyo area, where a structure being dismantled as part of the Nairobi River Regeneration Project suddenly gave way. Authorities have yet to determine the exact cause of the collapse.
Rescue operations are ongoing, with emergency teams, including military units, searching through the rubble for survivors. Officials confirmed that at least two individuals have been rescued alive, while the injured have been taken to nearby medical facilities.
The tragedy underscores persistent concerns over construction safety standards in Nairobi, where building collapses are not uncommon. Previous assessments by the National Construction Authority have indicated that a significant proportion of structures in the city fail to meet safety requirements.
Authorities have launched an investigation to establish responsibility and prevent similar incidents, as questions mount over enforcement of building regulations and demolition safety procedures.
