Pan-African activist Kemi Seba will stay in detention after a court in South Africa postponed his hearing to May 11. He was arrested earlier this month along with his son during a police operation.
Seba is anted in Benin, where authorities accuse him of encouraging rebellion linked to a failed coup attempt last December. However, his lawyer strongly rejects these claims, arguing that the accusations are exaggerated and meant to portray him as more dangerous than he really is.
His legal team says the case against him is weak and believes he has a good chance of being granted bail. In the meantime, Seba has applied for political asylum in South Africa, which could affect whether he is sent back to Benin.
The delay in the hearing is due to scheduling issues with the state prosecutor, not new developments in the case. Until the next court date, Seba will remain in custody as both sides prepare for what could become a complex legal and political case.
