Sulemana Abdul Samed, widely regarded as Ghana’s tallest person, has died aged 32, the state broadcaster, Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC), reported on Monday.
Abdul Samed, popularly known as Awuche, died while receiving treatment at the Tamale Teaching Hospital in the country’s northern region, GBC reported.
Awuche’s cause of death was not immediately revealed.
The 7-feet-4-inches tall Ghanaian had struggled with mobility challenges and recurring health problems due to excess growth hormone.
He had been diagnosed with acromegaly, a rare hormonal disorder caused by the overproduction of growth hormone in adults, resulting in enlarged hands, feet, and facial features.
The health challenges caused Awuche’s frequent hospitalisation, prompting a public appeal for support toward offsetting his medical bills in 2022.
Awuche attended school in northern Ghana and worked as a mechanic thereafter.
