Recep Tayyip Erdoğan said the world is going through a major transformation driven by technology and artificial intelligence, comparing it to the Industrial Revolution. Speaking in Istanbul at the OECD Skills Summit, he stressed that this shift will change how people work and how economies function.
In simple terms, Erdoğan explained that many traditional jobs are disappearing while new ones are being created. He highlighted how robotics and AI are growing fast, mentioning that the global robotics market could expand massively in the coming decades. He also pointed to the rise of “dark factories” fully automated production sites that operate with little or no human workers as a sign of how serious this change is.
Despite the opportunities, he warned about risks. Some groups—like women, migrants, and disadvantaged still struggle to access education and jobs. According to him, leaving people out of the workforce weakens both the economy and society.
Focusing on Türkiye, Erdoğan said the country has improved its labor market in recent years. Informal employment has dropped significantly, and more efforts are being made to connect education with real job skills. He added that the government aims to create jobs for 3 million young people within the next three years.
He also highlighted progress in women’s employment, noting increased participation and new policies such as longer maternity leave. Overall, he emphasized that investing in people skills, education, and inclusion will be the key to success in this new technological era.
