The International Organization for Migration reported that worsening insecurity forced around 2,600 civilians to flee the towns of Abu Haraz and Kazgil in Sudan’s North Kordofan state between April 29–30. The displaced have taken shelter in Sheikan district, where conditions remain tense. Sudan has been engulfed in conflict since April 2023 between the army and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces, a war that has killed tens of thousands, displaced 13 million, and pushed parts of the country toward famine. The new wave of displacement highlights the deepening humanitarian crisis in one of the world’s most fragile conflict zones.
