Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has presented the Atatürk International Peace Award to UN Secretary-General António Guterres during an official ceremony in Ankara, recognizing his contributions to promoting international peace and multilateral cooperation.
In his address, Erdoğan commended the UN chief for supporting dialogue and strengthening global stability, while reaffirming Türkiye’s commitment to the United Nations and its peacebuilding mission. He emphasized that justice remains a fundamental pillar for sustainable peace, development and stability.
The Turkish leader also stressed the importance of reforming the United Nations to make it more inclusive and representative, arguing that the institution must better reflect current global realities.
Erdoğan additionally highlighted Türkiye’s ongoing diplomatic efforts to reduce tensions in the Middle East, warning that escalating confrontation surrounding Iran could trigger a wider regional crisis. Ankara, he said, will continue to prioritize diplomacy and dialogue to prevent further escalation.
