DRC president receives Somali ambassador’s posting letter

President Felix Tshisekedi of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) has officially received the posting letter of Somalia’s new ambassador to Kinshasa, Ilyas Ali Hassan.

The envoy’s credentials were received by the head of state in DRC’s capital Kinshasa on Monday, symbolising enhanced relations between DRC and Somalia.

The two nations are members of the East African Community (EAC) economic bloc.

Ambassador Ilyas was initially based in Tanzania’s commercial hub Dar es Salaam.

Expresses support for DRC’s sovereignty

During his presentation in Kinshasa on Monday, the envoy lauded DRC’s support for the Somali community living and working in DRC.

Ambassador Ilyas also reaffirmed his commitment to advancing Mogadishu-Kinshasa ties, including in trade, human capital, and enhancing regional stability.

The envoy highlighted Somalis notable contribution to the economic sectors of the neighbouring Kenya and Tanzania.

Ambassador Ilyas further congratulated DRC on its recent election to the United Nations Security Council, expressing Somalia’s support for DRC’s territorial integrity amid tensions in the country’s east.
