Ghana forward Antoine Semenyo will be sidelined for up to eight weeks with a leg injury sustained while playing for Manchester City, manager Enzo Maresca said on Monday.

The 26-year-old was injured during City’s 3-2 Premier League victory over Ipswich Town on Saturday, leaving the field shortly after coming on as a substitute in the 77th minute.

Maresca said scans showed the injury was less serious than initially feared, but Semenyo would need time to recover and was expected to return in December.

“The only one that will be out for probably eight weeks is Antoine,” Maresca told reporters ahead of City’s Champions League match against AEK Athens on Tuesday.

Injury impact

Semenyo’s absence is a setback for City as they navigate a busy run of domestic and European fixtures. The forward has scored two goals and provided three assists in the Premier League this season.

His injury could also affect Ghana’s preparations for their upcoming international commitments, depending on his recovery timeline.

Meanwhile, Maresca said he remained hopeful that striker Erling Haaland would be available against AEK despite concerns over a foot and ankle knock sustained against Ipswich.

City will be looking to bounce back in Europe after losing 4-2 at home to Paris Saint-Germain last week. They have collected three points from their opening two Champions League matches.
