Four civilians from the same family were killed by members of the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in Sudan’s North Kordofan state, an independent rights group said on Friday.
The Emergency Lawyers group said that it documented the Monday arrival of RSF troops at the family’s home in Al Mazroub in an attempt to loot it.
Family members resisted the attempted looting before the paramilitary troops returned the following day and killed four members of the family, according to the group.
The Emergency Lawyers group condemned the killings as a “grave violation of the right to life” and said they reflect the risks posed by continued attacks on civilians and their property amid a lack of accountability.
Civilian protection
The group called for an independent and transparent investigation, accountability for those responsible, and measures to protect civilians and their property.
The Sudan Doctors Network said on October 3 that 25 civilians were killed by RSF troops in Umm Badr in North Kordofan.
The army has recently made broad advances in much of North Kordofan following clashes with the paramilitary RSF.
The army is approaching control of most of the state, while a few areas, including Umm Badr and Jabra Al Sheikh, remain under RSF control.
Devastating war
Sudan’s three Kordofan states – North, West, and South – have witnessed intense fighting between the army and RSF since October 25.
Sudan has been engulfed in a war between the army and RSF since 2023 about disagreements related to integrating the paramilitary group into Sudan’s regular military, leaving tens of thousands of people dead and displacing 13 million others.
