A joint Zimbabwean-South African film company, Black Lips Film Production, has been contracted to produce a six-part drama series showcasing the life of President Emmerson Mnangagwa.
The proposed title of the film is “Raising of a Giant.”
The state-owned Herald newspaper reports that each of the six episodes will last an hour, and the film written in 11 African languages.
The Herald stated in a report on Wednesday, October 7, 2026 that the production will “trace the president’s life from the history preceding his birth and his childhood through the liberation struggle and political career to his leadership.”
‘Not only about one man’
Sibusisiwe Busie Mzinja, the drama series’ lead producer, said it will also capture other aspects of Zimbabwe’s history beyond the president’s life. “This is not only about one man. It is about every citizen playing a part, because legacy is about shaping the future.”
On why the film will be centred on President Mnangagwa’s life, Mzinja said: “We start before he was born because a leader is shaped by the history that came before him and audiences will see how the boy became the president.”
Prevail International Group of Companies, founded by President Mnangagwa’s investments adviser Paul Tungwarara, sponsored the film. The sponsorship fee has not been disclosed.
Mnangagwa, 84, was born in Zimbabwe’s southern mining town of Zvishavane on September 15, 1942. He first came to power in November 2017 following the ouster of Zimbabwe’s then-President Robert Mugabe.
