The Sudan Doctors Network on Saturday accused the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) of looting Sodari Rural Hospital in North Kordofan state, destroying its medical equipment, and leaving it in ruins.
The independent medical group said in a statement that the hospital had served more than 50,000 families before the war. It accused the RSF of attacking and looting the facility’s infrastructure, devices, and medical equipment.
The damage has deprived residents of essential health services at a time of severe humanitarian and health needs in the area, the network said.
It called the looting and destruction of health facilities a direct attack on the right to healthcare, saying it undermined the health system’s ability to serve civilians.
Army says it has taken control of North Kordofan town
The network urged the international community and humanitarian and rights organisations to condemn the violations, help protect health facilities in conflict areas, and press RSF leaders to halt attacks on medical sites and hold those responsible accountable.
There was no immediate comment from the RSF on the accusations.
On Friday, the Sudanese army said it had taken control of the city of Sodari in North Kordofan and inflicted personnel and equipment losses on the RSF.
On September 6, the army announced that it had seized Hamrat Al Wiz in the Jabra Al Sheikh locality of North Kordofan.
Devastating war
Since late July, the army has taken control of wide areas of North Kordofan after retaking Bara as well as Jabra Al Sheikh and Umm Sayala, while securing the main road linking Bara with Omdurman, west of the capital Khartoum.
Sudan’s three Kordofan states – North, West and South Kordofan – have witnessed fighting between the army and the RSF since last October.
Sudan has been engulfed in war between the army and the RSF since 2023, leaving tens of thousands dead and around 13 million people displaced, according to UN and international estimates.
