A US court has approved the dismissal of the case against Turkish state bank Halkbank, bringing a nine-year legal process to a final close.

The US District Court for the Southern District of New York approved a joint request by the US Justice Department’s Southern District of New York office and Halkbank to dismiss the case, the Turkish state lender said on Wednesday.

With the court’s approval, the criminal proceedings against the bank in the United States have been fully concluded.

In a statement to Türkiye’s Public Disclosure Platform, or KAP, Halkbank said the case had been “definitively and finally closed.”

“We hope the decision will be beneficial for our bank, our investors, our customers and our employees,” the bank said.

Halkbank said it would continue its operations in line with all national and international regulations, adding that it would maintain its contribution to the growth of Türkiye’s banking sector and economy.

No sanctions being imposed

Halkbank General Manager Recep Suleyman Ozdil said the legal process had been completed without any judicial or administrative sanction against the bank.

“This decision will allow us to focus on our activities with greater predictability and stronger motivation,” Ozdil said.

He said the positive conclusion of the process had once again confirmed the bank’s compliance policies, which were shaped in line with national and international financial regulations, as well as its approach based on transparency and trust.

Ozdil added that the decision was expected to strengthen Halkbank’s position in international markets, improve its access to foreign funding, deepen cooperation with international financial institutions and reinforce relations with correspondent banks.

He said increased confidence and stronger international cooperation would help diversify the bank’s financing sources and support its growth targets.
