More than two‑thirds of Germans say their government has no clear strategy in the Iran war, according to a poll by Internationale Politik. The survey revealed deep skepticism across political lines, with AfD voters (86%) and Left Party supporters (78%) most critical. Even among Greens, 69% said Berlin lacks direction. Regional divides were evident: only 17% in eastern Germany felt the government has a clear course, compared to 82% who disagreed. Younger respondents were also strongly critical, with 76% of 18‑ to 29‑year‑olds rejecting the government’s approach. Chancellor Friedrich Merz’s shifting stance—supporting US and Israeli strikes in February but later accusing Washington of lacking a plan—has fueled perceptions of uncertainty. The findings highlight growing public unease over Germany’s role in the conflict.
