Mali’s authorities say investigations have uncovered “solid evidence” that some military officers collaborated with jihadi and separatist fighters in the country’s largest wave of attacks in more than a decade. The Azawad Liberation Front claimed capture of the strategic Tessalit military camp after Malian and Russian forces withdrew, days after rebels seized Kidal and killed Defense Minister Sadio Camara.
The prosecutor’s office alleged that serving and dismissed officers helped plan and execute the assaults, alongside politicians including exiled leader Oumar Mariko. The attacks, carried out with al‑Qaida‑linked JNIM, targeted Bamako’s airport and multiple towns, forcing withdrawals across the north. Roads to the capital have been blocked, worsening insecurity. Junta leader Assimi Goita vowed continued operations until armed groups are “completely neutralized.”
