China’s Ministry of Commerce has condemned a US regulatory proposal targeting foreign telecom certification bodies, warning it could disrupt trade and supply chains. The FCC plan would revoke qualifications for entities from countries without recognition agreements and bar those on a “Covered List” from operating in the US.
Chinese officials said the move discriminates against foreign companies, including Chinese firms, and undermines global cooperation. Beijing cautioned it would take necessary steps to protect its companies if the measures are implemented. The criticism follows high‑level talks between Chinese Vice Premier He Lifeng and US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, where both sides pledged to manage tensions and deepen cooperation. The dispute underscores the fragile state of US–China economic relations as Trump prepares for a visit to Beijing in May.
