Six Iranian crew members aboard the Iranian-flagged container ship Touska have been released and returned to Iran, according to reports from the semi-official Tasnim news agency. However, 22 other crew members are still being held on the vessel, and Iranian officials are reportedly working to secure their release.
The ship was seized in the Gulf of Oman by U.S. naval forces under the U.S. Central Command CENTCOM, which said the vessel had failed to comply with instructions during a maritime operation.
The situation comes amid rising tensions in the region following military strikes involving the United States, Israel, and Iran earlier this year. The conflict has disrupted shipping routes and increased instability around the Strait of Hormuz, a critical global oil passage.
After a brief ceasefire attempt mediated by Pakistan, talks failed to produce a lasting agreement. Since mid-April, the U.S. has reportedly enforced stricter naval measures targeting Iranian-linked maritime traffic in the region.
Iran has also been accused of restricting vessel movement in the Strait of Hormuz, further escalating the standoff between the two sides.
While a small group of sailors has now returned home, the broader dispute over maritime control and regional security remains unresolved.
