A military transport aircraft from Belgium was struck by gunfire during a United Nations mission in Haiti, underscoring the fragile security environment in the country. The Airbus A400M was conducting a flight between Santo Domingo and Port-au-Prince as part of a peacekeeping operation.

The aircraft, operated by Belgium’s 15th Air Transport Squadron, was carrying approximately 80 Chadian soldiers assigned to the United Nations mission. After successfully completing the deployment, the plane returned to Santo Domingo.

During a post-flight inspection, two bullet impacts were discovered on the tail and engine of the aircraft. Initial findings suggest the plane may have been targeted shortly before landing in Port-au-Prince. Despite the incident, the crew landed safely and no injuries were reported.

Following temporary repairs, the aircraft returned to its base in Brussels without further incident. While the Belgian Ministry of Defence confirmed the event, no further details have been provided regarding the circumstances of the attack.

The episode highlights the persistent risks facing international missions operating in Haiti.
