The White House announced that U.S. envoy Steve Witkoff and advisor Jared Kushner will travel to Pakistan to hold talks with Iranian representatives.
According to officials, the meeting was requested by Iran after Donald Trump encouraged Tehran to engage in dialogue. The talks will be mediated by Pakistan, which has been playing a key role in bringing both sides together.
The goal is to build on earlier discussions held in Islamabad in April and move closer to a broader agreement that could reduce tensions and possibly end ongoing hostilities.
While the envoys travel, senior U.S. leaders—including Vice President JD Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio—will remain in Washington but stay closely involved and ready to act if needed.
On the Iranian side, Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi is also engaging in regional diplomacy, starting his tour in Pakistan before visiting other countries.
These efforts follow a temporary ceasefire brokered earlier with Pakistan’s help, showing that the country is becoming an important middleman in this conflict.
In simple terms, the U.S. and Iran are cautiously reopening talks, with Pakistan helping both sides communicate and possibly move toward a deal.
