Donald Trump defended his recent criticism of Pope Leo XIV, saying he respects the Pope but has the right to disagree with him.

Speaking before leaving the White House, Trump rejected claims he was attacking the Pope personally, stating that while religious leaders can express their views, political leaders can also respond.

Trump also made a claim that the Pope supported Iran having nuclear weapons—something for which there is no evidence. He emphasized his own position that Iran should not be allowed to develop nuclear arms.

The disagreement comes as the Pope has spoken out against ongoing conflicts, including US and Israeli military actions, warning about the dangers of war and humanitarian crises.

Trump, however, criticized the Pope’s stance on foreign policy, calling it “weak,” while saying he supports the Pope’s religious role in preaching.

The situation has drawn reactions from religious leaders and raised concerns about diplomatic tensions, including with Italy, where the Vatican is located.

Overall, the exchange reflects a broader clash between political and moral perspectives on war, peace, and global security.
