Algeria is advancing toward key legislative elections after President Abdelmadjid Tebboune officially scheduled the vote for July 2, 2026.
The decree initiates the electoral process, including a nationwide revision of voter lists from April 12 to April 26, in accordance with constitutional timelines ahead of the current parliament’s term expiration.
A major institutional shift accompanies the vote, as recent reforms have redefined the role of the ANIE. The body will no longer oversee logistical operations, which are now assigned to the Interior Ministry—marking a significant change in election management.
Political parties and independent candidates have a limited timeframe to prepare and submit their lists, with deadlines set 60 days before the election.
The ballot will determine the composition of the National People’s Assembly, which includes 407 seats allocated across provinces based on population, while ensuring representation for less populated areas.
The upcoming elections are expected to serve as a critical test of Algeria’s recent political reforms and could shape the country’s legislative and institutional future.
