Vigário Luís Balanta, a prominent civil society activist and outspoken critic of Guinea-Bissau’s military junta, was found dead near Bissau after what reports describe as a violent attack. Balanta led the Pó di Terra revolutionary movement and frequently challenged the transitional authorities, denouncing protest bans and demanding transparency in the 2025 elections.
